Update first and confirm 1.0.5 on the title screen. The old system-menu restart applies only when testing an older build or documenting a case that still reproduces after the update.
What was fixed
The issue occurred after the barrier to the Summons boss area was unlocked: gameplay could rarely remain black after the enemy appearance effect. The 1.0.5 fix list explicitly names that progression failure.
The same patch also supplies more Healing Potions and a Bombstone at the start of Summons and strengthens some quest bosses. Recheck the supplied Item Pouch before buying replacements or reusing a pre-patch plan.
What to do now
- Open the title screen and record the installed version.
- On Steam, install 1.0.5 before retrying the boss area.
- Load a normal checkpoint and retry once without changing several variables at the same time.
- If the blackout remains on 1.0.5, record the platform, quest state, scene-skip choice and active partner for a support report.
- Do not delete the save or local configuration as a first response.
Historical workaround for older builds
In 1.0.4, Bandai Namco advised exiting through the platform system menu and restarting if the screen did not fade back in. The notice also said a Death Game Mode save would not be deleted when the game was closed during this issue while HP had not reached 0.
Summons black screen FAQ
Is the Summons black screen still under investigation?
No. The official Steam 1.0.5 notes list it under confirmed fixes.
Does the Steam notice prove consoles are on 1.0.5?
No. Check the title screen and platform update history separately; the 1.0.5 announcement identifies Steam as the supported platform.
Is this the same as Original Sin?
No. Original Sin's partner-related black screen was fixed in 1.0.4. Summons was a separate boss-introduction issue fixed in 1.0.5.
